Creating a Photobook to Treasure

I was very lucky to be offered vouchers to test a Saal Professional Line Photobook recently. After having decided on a theme of A Year in Sussex, I downloaded their software and began choosing images and text in the hope of creating a book not only to share with friends and family but also galleries and other people interested in my work.

Although I've never made a photobook before, the software was very intuitive and made it easy to customise each page to my own design. Ensuring that photographs were not too light or dark was a worry as I've had problems with printing before; but I was guided by how they looked within the software (which was a little darker than in my editing programs) and in fact the exposure was just right. The colours and detail were truly exceptional in the finished book - much better than I was expecting.

The acrylic cover was a very unusual and elegant way to show off a favourite photo and together with the black leather binding made for a solid, luxurious feel which was enhanced by the thickness of the pages and quality feel of the high end matte paper. The flat lay binding means that images spreading over two pages truly look their best as well.

My initial concern that the cover was scratched was quickly allayed by Saal via email - I'd not realised that it came with a protector which I hadn't removed. Perhaps a sticker on the cover advising this would make it idiot proof?!

Everyone that I've shown the book to has been amazed by its quality, and although they aren't cheap I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one of these photobooks to anyone wishing to showcase their work or share special memories in a unique way. I will certainly be treasuring my book for many years to come and hope to create another Saal book in the future.
